Clean Co-Creation - Discovery Dialogues

So, What Are We Going to Talk About?

Theme Selection or Identification

Clean Co-Creation (CCC) is a dialogue between two people discussing a common theme or topic with each other.

The theme to be explored by each pair of participants during a CCC session can come from two sources:

  1. The theme can be pre-selected or assigned. For co-workers, an example theme could be ‘working together at our best’. Or for partners ‘our relationship’. Or for students, a topic being covered in their coursework. Themes could also be selected from various ‘topics to be discussed’ lists on the internet.

  2. The theme can also be co-created and mutually determined by the participants as a starting point of their Clean Co-Creation session. A short pre-process (see below) can be used to identify a common theme to explore. Each person shares what they would like to explore, and a quick exchange of follow-up questions leads to uncovering a common theme.

Either way, the intention is for the participants to agree on a topic/theme that is expressed in just one or two words, or as a short statement or phrase

How Participants Can Mutually Determine a Common Theme Together to Explore

This short co-creation pre-process can be done in less than five minutes.

Each person shares what they would like to explore, and the exchange between them will lead to a common theme.

The two people take turns asking and answering each of this sequence of questions:

Person A

Person B

1. And what would you like to explore?

2. And what would you like to explore?

3. And with what we have shared, what do you notice?

4. And with what we have shared, what do you notice?

5. And is there anything else you notice?

6. And is there anything else you notice?

The two participants continue asking each other “And is there anything else you notice?“ until a theme/topic emerges that is relevant to both.

Once identified and agreed upon, each participant should write down the same exact words of the theme/topic they will be exploring together, and keep it handy as they will be referring to it throughout the exchange.
